Day in Rovinj

We walked down the footpath from the hotel to the harbor and ran into our buddy again from last night.  The day was pristine, the sky was clear blue, but eclipsed in richness of color by the azure sea. The water lapping up to the shore was so clear and clean, amazing considering this is a working harbor with so many fishing boats and pleasure craft moored here.

After leaving Venice I was afraid we might have been spoiled for other sights, but Rovinj is spectacular, prettier, really, than Venice, with the surrounding sea and the cluster of medieval buildings working their way up the hill to the St. Euphemia bell tower. The buildings are of a similar vintage to Venice, and the narrow alleys and cobblestone streets have striking charm and ambience. Of course, nothing can quite compare to Venice, the art, the history. But Venice is overrun by tourists -- Rovinj is lower key, at least this time of year. Spent a pleasant day roaming the town, sitting in an outside cafe near the harbor, and later in the evening came back into town as the sun was setting over the sea with an ever-changing pallet of colors-- golds to reds to roses and pinks; during  the final stage we ate outside at a seafood restaurant. The sea bass fillet was quite tasty.
